Terms of Service

Using HootZen means you agree to these terms. We've kept them short and readable.

The deal

HootZen provides invoicing software. You use it to create, send, and track invoices. We provide the service; you provide accurate information and use it lawfully. That's the deal.

Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account. Don't share your magic-link emails. If something looks wrong, email hello@hootzen.app and we'll help.

What you can't do

  • Use HootZen to send fraudulent or fake invoices
  • Use it to harass, spam, or send unsolicited bulk emails to people who didn't consent
  • Try to reverse-engineer, scrape, or attack the service
  • Resell or sublicense HootZen as if it were your own product
  • Violate Indian or international law while using HootZen — tax fraud, money laundering, the obvious stuff

Beta software

HootZen is currently in open beta. That means: things might break, features will change, and we're shipping fast. We'll do our best to give you advance notice of anything disruptive.

Pricing during beta

HootZen is free during open beta. When we exit beta and introduce paid tiers, we'll email you with at least 30 days' notice. Beta users will be offered a founding rate locked in for the duration of their continued subscription.

Your data and ours

Your invoice data, customer data, and uploads belong to you. You keep all rights to them. We have a limited license to host and process the data so we can provide the service — nothing more.

The HootZen software, brand, mascot (hi Ollie), templates, and code are ours. Don't copy them.

Canceling

You can leave any time. Delete your account from settings and we'll erase your workspace within 30 days. Bulk export available on request before you go.

We might pause your account

If you do something clearly forbidden by these terms, we may:

  • Email you with a warning
  • Pause your access while we figure it out
  • Terminate your account in serious cases (fraud, abuse)

We'll always tell you what happened and let you export your data first, unless legally prevented from doing so.

No warranty (legal bit)

HootZen is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it reliable, but we can't guarantee zero downtime, zero bugs, or that the service will fit every edge case. Don't use it as the only source of truth for legally critical records — keep your own backups too.

Liability cap

To the maximum extent allowed by law, our liability for any claim related to HootZen is capped at what you've paid us in the previous 12 months (which, during beta, is zero). This doesn't limit liability for gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we'll email you and update the date at the top. Continued use after that means you accept the new terms.
